CELEBRATING 3 DECADES OF DOWN TO EARTH SERVICE
What does it take for a family business to thrive for 30 years ?
According to Richard and Rachel at CRG Nichol, the key to their three successful decades has been offering
a down-to-earth service to customers, talking their language and not trying to dazzle them with “flash” sales talk.
As a result, a high proportion of their business comes from recommendations and repeat orders – in fact only
this week, Richard took an order from a customer who has been with CRG Nichol since 1985.
Richard said: “We’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our customers, some of whom have been on the
journey with us right from day one.
“Whatever we have achieved over the years, it’s all down to the loyalty of customers – old, new and future.”
To begin with ,the business was run from the family’s home in Wilton, but since 2010 they have been based
at The Garage, in Nawton, where there are usually up to 40 4x4s and pickups available, from £1,000,
making them the number one independent supplier in Ryedale.
The company are also official agents for Graham Edwards Trailers and Gamic Alloy Canopies, as well as
supplying a wide range of used agricultural machinery and accessories, from specialist oils to quad bikes,
Mules and tractors.
Although Richard and Rachel are the most familiar faces of CRG Nichol, they are also helped by their daughter Sophie.
They are proud to be a part of the Ryedale community, which they demonstrated in 2006 by raising £10,000
from a charity ball, the proceeds being shared by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Perhaps the final word should be left to a couple of customers. One said: “Having known Richard since school,
its great that we are still good friends and business associates – and both doing rather well for ourselves too!”
